To make this portable (Handy for Drone flyers wanting to monitor local A/C) I assume you could write a script to find the current location and use that?

Big fail on this hat, it doesn't need/use (?) the 40 pin header and *doesn't* pass it through. The pins are unusable. So it blocks all the pins you might want to use for say.... environmental monitoring of the enclosure the pi is in. I love the idea, but this is a big fat Fail on nooelec's part. If you don't need the pins, either properly pass them through or don't use the form factor that blocks the pins.

Hallo , nice Radio due to the GPS - but i order one from China - it workes 2 minutes . The display become blue - and i looked for the ribon cable pcb to display - also i tried reprogramming . Fakt is i had to send it back - this was not so easy . i knew from some other OM s in Italy they have had the same problems , it is this serie ? how old is your radio now ? Thanks a lot Tim

$600 is rather spendy. But for DIYrs there are 18.4'/5.6 meter telescoping antennas on eBay for $17. One would need to work out the matching module, or do like me and just let the tuner work things out. There's a metric thread on the bottom but I don't see much problem with that. Nuts are readily available and one could even tap 10 mm threaded holes if necessary.

I'm no conspiracy theorist, but if the point of this video was to assuage any concerns people might have about HAARP, if failed miserably. The idea that the US military spent millions (billions?) of dollars to develop this technology merely to detect or study "perturbations" in the ionosphere strikes me as being highly implausible. The fact that secret HAARP sites are apparently springing up in countries around the world, including the UK, is deeply sinister, in my opinion. Also, the dearth of videos on YT and other channels dealing with HAARP (and I've been searching for them) strongly suggests to me that information on this subject is being actively blocked/censored.

I run the blue FlightAware Pro USB stick with a Raspberry Pi 3B. It runs hot unless I use a fan so I've always been hesitant about using a hat with it. Maybe it's the quality of the heat sinks I'm using? I don't know but this hat is interesting and would be awesome for me since I can only do ADS-B and not UAT with my current setup. The ability to run both from one interface and one piece of hardware is awesome.

LOL ..What an Innovative Product Name (FlyCatcher) .. This is another reason I would want a Raspberry Pi for a detocated Set up for ADS-B.. But .. I Don't need the Board as I would Just use a simple RTL-SDR with the Software.. The Home Brew ADS-B (1.09 Gig) Antenna that I made.. (Rocks) 200 Mile Radius Reception... No LNA or Filters needed. (Some PVC Pipe and some RG-6 Coax is all you Need to build one..) (16 Segment Co-liniar 👍)

978Mhz is pointless currently in the UK. Let’s hope these are not as sensitive as the LNA make.

So it's an overcomplicated, quite expensive SDR in which the filter is used after the amplifier for some reason, and it doesn't use GPIO anyway and has to be connected via a USB cable?

ADBS is becoming useless in and around conflict zone. One good use of ADBS is predicting Middle East conflicts. A few hours before any country shoots a missile, civil flight path changes.

I don't understand the purpose of the Pi hat form factor if the GPIO header is completely unused and you plug it in via USB anyway.

Why not just use the ADSB Exchange pi image? It uses the same UI.

There are 2 Web sites that do basically the same thing for free- *FlightAwareLive* and *FlightRadar24* .

Does the two SDRs have different serial numbers ? I could be a cool product, if the hat took advantage of the GPIO pins, instead of having the two USB cables hanging (not as compact). It is too pricy for me, beacuse I cannot use the UAT part in the EU. But it is always nice to see new products, so you know that is out there. Keep up the good work.

Can't even select different antennas for RX / TX, the user interface is pretty bad, and I also don't know how it'll handle hotswitching. Seems like it doesn't. Usually the 16A relays I use in switches are rated for millions of mechanical cycles but only about 500.000 cycles under a current load. These are just 2A relays rated for 100.000 electrical cycles.. yeah. The 50 ohm terminator will only withstand a 100w or higher RF for a certain time, and that will surely happen because how are you supposed to know you're TXing into the wrong port, indicator leds will usually be facing away from you or will be completely hidden. Meh. The freq counter is neat but otherwise, not much is smart about this switch. And the pricetag is hefty too. Not worth it.
